Crazy week ….

We’re both pretty much whipped, but we’ve accomplished a lot in the last few days. I’m way too tired for my usual ramblings, so here’s a photo essay of what we did ….

I finally got the sewer connected to the septic tank ….

As of my last post, the builders had just finished installing the under-slab insulation. Before they left that evening, they put down the reinforcing wire mesh and then turned it over to us for our radiant heat project ….

Step one was deciding where the point of origin was going to be, and installing protection for the PEX tubing where it enters the slab …..

Then, I temporarily installed the the manifold that controls the water flow to each zone ….

Then, we fastened 600 feet of PEX, in two seperate zones, to the wire mesh ….

Finally, we pressurized the system to check for leaks. It passed the pressure test, and we left it pressurized. Monitoring the pressure gauge throughout the rest of the project will assure that any damage to the tubing will be readily apparent ….

And on Monday, the first level of the slab was poured …..

The next day, the builders worked on the forms for the upper level slabs. We went up in the late afternoon, mapped out the rest of the floorplan and installed the PEX in those areas. I was really impressed with the job they did setting the forms. They got everything in the right place, and got the curved areas pretty much exactly as we had envisioned. More importantly, they managed to do it without any damage to the PEX in the first slab. They had to nail the forms to the first slab, and we were nervous that they might accidentally shoot nails into our PEX …
Tomorrow, the remaining slabs will go in, and then the framing crew will get the green light. I could have written pages about these stages of the project, and maybe some day I will, but for now, I need some sleep. Gotta get up there early tomorrow …. Whew !!!
